Toyah Willcox Joins Age UK London to Launch
‘Rock Against Ageism’ Events
Age has no place putting a limit on creativity, ambition or the love of music. That’s the message behind Rock Against Ageism, an exciting new series of events from Age UK London, launching on 18 November at Cecil Sharp House in London with the legendary Toyah Willcox.
Fans will have the opportunity to enjoy a special afternoon with one of Britain’s most iconic performers, hearing first-hand about her extraordinary career, her experiences of growing older in the public eye, and why challenging ageism in the music industry and beyond is so important.
The event will feature an intimate, fireside-style conversation with Toyah, offering a fascinating insight into her life in music, her many achievements and her thoughts on breaking down outdated stereotypes about ageing. Audience members will also have the opportunity to put forward a question to Toyah on the day, making this a truly interactive and personal experience.
And what better way to enjoy an afternoon of conversation and music than with tea and cake included? There will also be a raffle offering the chance to win some fantastic prizes, with all money raised through the raffle going to Age UK Camden, helping to support older people in the local community.
Rock Against Ageism aims to use the influence and universal appeal of music to challenge negative attitudes towards getting older and celebrate the contribution, talent and creativity of people at every stage of life. The launch comes at a time when the issue remains pressing. Research by Age UK London has found that almost half of older Londoners have experienced ageism, while 60% say they are reluctant to challenge it. Experiences range from everyday encounters on public transport and in shops to interactions when accessing healthcare.
Through this new series, Age UK London hopes to encourage a more positive and inclusive view of later life, while raising vital funds for its work supporting older people across the capital. Toyah is the first of several well-known performers expected to take part in future events, with more exciting names already lined up.
Whether you’re a lifelong Toyah fan, passionate about music, or keen to support the fight against ageism, this promises to be a memorable afternoon filled with conversation, audience participation, tea, cake and the chance to win prizes, all while supporting a worthwhile cause.
